La maleta
La maleta is a short point and click game set in the Canary Islands in the 1980s, when the NATO referendum was taking place and the social movements that spanned. It is based on the poem "La maleta", by Pedro Lezcano.
La maleta tries to depict the hardships of the Canarian people during the 80s and how most, if not all the issues that the poem exposes, are still true today.
The game is available in Spanish and English. It uses a very local language that I've tried to keep in the English translation, so, if you don't know some words, I encourage you to search them and learn about them. You can change the language in the main menu or using the setup tool that comes in the package.
Once you have finished the game, the option to listen to the full poem becomes available in the main menu.
La maleta is made with the amazing engine Adventure Game Studio. Thanks a lot to the devs that have worked and keep working on it! Also, thanks to the module developers. This game uses the following modules:

i cannot understand what they spoke of.. foreign languages is not my forte; because i only understand just english and also i'm deaf and hears sounds with my headphones.. sorry.. i wish all game spoken in english. good game but vocal is not in english, subtitle was in english, pity the voice isnt.. bravo game and completed it.. good game...

This is a nice little game. The scenes look great and I like the little chats with his Mom. I couldn't find the photos though!
I have to ask how did you embed an AGS game in browser view? I have been trying to do that with mine so that people don't have to download it?

I got the pictures now in your game and finished it. That is a nice way to tell the poem and the backgrounds all looked great! Your Father's delivery of the poem was very good!
A nice little game that tells you something about the real world that is hard to be found in the mainstream. I wish more games like this were made.

That's weird... Which platform? Do you get an error? If the ingame switch doesn't work, you can use winsetup.exe to change it or edit the line "translation= English"in the file acsetup.cfg of the game directory.

The message is clearly by and for Canary Islanders but nevertheless it hit me hard. Other parts of Spain were also deeply affected by the most greedy aspects of tourism in the past decades, so in some way the game made me reflect on its impact on past generations around me and whatever choices I could possibly make that have an effect on that.
I think it's not too crazy to say that many Spaniards today have similar imaginary "maletas"; the game made me feel sad but also inspired me to unpack my own maleta and reflect on what I can do to honour the local past and work on a local future at the same time.
